New Years EveMonday 31 December from 21:00

A limited number of dance only tickets are now available for New Years Eve at SYC for after the dinner (which is now sold-out). Come along from 21:00. At just £10 per person you can close out the year with some live music and of course a brilliant atmosphere!

Entertainment will be provided by the female duo ‘Halo’ who will sing two different sets, one after dinner and the second approaching the new year, including leading a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne! A disco will be playing in between whilst they take a well earned rest! Music will suit all tastes, from Fleetwood Mac to Madonna with offerings from 60s, 70s and 80s, and others upon request.

Please contact the Office on 01273 464868, or the hospitality team behind the bar on 01273 453717 or alternatively email steward@sussexyachtclub.org.uk

New Year’s Eve Menu Choices

We are still awaiting menu choices from some members who have booked for New Years Eve. If you have not supplied that information, or you are unsure, please contact the office as soon as possible, and certainly before midday on Thursday 27 December, in order that we have plenty of time to order and prepare the food. You will appreciate that shopping is more difficult if left to the last minute so early notification would be much appreciated.

January Club Night

The Big Raffle TileFriday 11 January

Club night at SYC is an informal monthly gathering when members are encouraged to come along to the main Shoreham club house, treating the occasion very much like a night out at a good pub with friends.

Remember that the January Club Night raffle has the biggest prize selection of the year.

Our Steward Natalie with Chef Alan present an excellent supper with service commencing at 19:30 sharp with diners served two courses for £12.50.

Main: Italian Creamy Roasted Chicken with Basil and Sundried Tomatoes or Italian Vegetable Cottage Pie served with Mash, Wilted Spinach and Roasted Carrots.

Dessert: Lemon Meringue Pie or Cheese and Biscuits

Remember you don't have to have supper to enjoy a Club Night evening; this is an informal occasion when members can pop in or stay for the duration, catching up on chit chat at the bar taking a friendly flutter with the ever popular Club Night Raffle or just relaxing with friends in the lounge.

New or prospective members are also welcome; just let the office know so we can arrange for somebody to welcome you and make introductions.

Suppers need to be paid in advance by cash or card through the Office on 01273 464868 Or with the Bar staff on 01273 453717. Alternatively email steward@sussexyachtclub.org.uk. Please remember to give your menu choices when booking.

Ladies Who Lunch

ProseccoWednesday 16 January

Another great idea in 2018 was for ladies informally lunching together on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, and as previously reported this function is going from strength to strength with continuing positive feedback.

Expect a single course meal with complimentary small glass of wine/soft drink at £7.50 per lady. Other courses are available to add to your meal if desired.

Come along to enjoy some female conversation and camaraderie! Don't be shy about bringing guests as all are welcome and there's no need to book. Please gather on Wednesday 16 January at 12:30 for lunch service at 13:00.

Can't make January? The ladies will also gather on 20 February and 20 March 2019.

Sussex Yacht Club AGM

Figure Head ND88583Saturday 19 January

The Sussex Yacht Club AGM is to be held on Saturday 19 January at 10.00 in the Restaurant. The formal notice is on the website and on the noticeboard.

The agenda will be published shortly and you can download reports for both SYC and Bar and Catering from the website.

Sadly we are no longer able to follow our long-standing tradition of members providing tea and cakes for the after-meeting buffet; the dreaded 'Elf and Safety' regulations restrict the supply of food from outside sources, so in order to remain within the regulations we must ask members to refrain from bringing along food.

Rule Change

Southwick Jetties P1020538Changes to the rule governing the allocation of Southwick moorings.

The land on which our Southwick west pontoon is built is leased from the port and this lease expires in 2019. In addition, the physical structure of the jetty is now at the end of its design life. Rebuilding this jetty in the same location is not an option as its location conflicts with the port's own development plans for the Lady Bee marina. Accordingly a new layout for our Southwick moorings has been designed. Various configurations are under consideration but none provide the same number of berths at Southwick that we currently enjoy.

It is widely recognised that many boats on our Southwick moorings rarely or never go to sea or participate in club races or rallies. This is, of course, in contravention of the existing Rule 37, which requires moorings to be occupied by active boats. The club also must continue to attract active boat owners and that in turn means that such must be provided with moorings.

Accordingly the various club committees have been working on a new rule 37 and the associated club procedures over the last 6 months. It is to be stressed that these would only come into effect during and after the construction of new moorings. After much deliberation, these changes to the way that moorings are allocated have been passed without objection by MC and subsidiary committees.

Under the new procedures, moorings will be allocated on the basis of the owner’s usage. Those actively racing and rallying or otherwise going to sea in their boats will be allocated moorings giving preference to those who use their boats the most. The full text of the rule may be found on the website under useful downloads and the associated policy may be found in the November 2018 main committee minutes.

February Club Night

Friday 1 February 2019

Club Night for February will celebrate Chinese New Year (The Year of the Pig). Recipients from various charities will be invited to receive their donations from the raffle takings from the last year.

Pigeon Hole Clearance

There are lots of cards stacking up in the pigeon holes waiting for collection. Any left there after 12th night will be removed to the store room... May we suggest you refer to the bar opening hours and come along to combine a card collection foray with a little something to warm the cockles?
